LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO (April 28, 2009) “” The American Poolplayers Association (APA) is proud to announce they have signed a sponsorship agreement with The Black Widow, Jeanette Lee. The APA made the announcement yesterday at their annual League Operator Convention in Las Vegas.

where it’s Amateur-Advanced and Amateur Divisions were hosted by Sharpshooters
Billiards & Grill whose owners Robbie and Donna Franklin graciously added $1500 to this weekend’s events.
The participants were greeted with 18 bar tables that were recently recovered in Simonis 860 and 4 nicely kept
9ft tables. Sharpshooters provided an excellent atmosphere for all the participants as well as spectators.

The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Amateur-Advanced and Amateur Division were hosted by Flamin’ Nine Billiards in Gravois Mills, Mo., the Weekend of April 18th & 19th, 2009. The double event was $2500 Added played on 7 foot tables and featured many local players as well as players from around the region.

The 2009 season is underway as the year opener took place Apr 18th/19th at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD. A strong field of 83 players signed up for the $1000 added event made possible by Orange Ball, Tiger Products and the tour sponsors.
Hugo Patino Wins at Cue and Cushion
The first stop of the 2009 USBA Tour was held at Cue and Cushion Billiard Lounge in Hooksett, NH on April 17-19, 2009. Four of the country’s top players participated and were the clear favorites in this 11 player round robin to 25 points. Room owner Mazin Shooni, 2006 US Champion, had his 2 beautiful Chevillotte tables recently recovered with Simonis 300 rapide cloth. The tables were long and very slippery. Competing along with Mazin was Hugo Patino (2003, 2009 US Champion), Sonny Cho (2005 US Champion), Michael Kang (Carom Café owner and top US player), Jim Shovak (USBA Secretary/Treasurer), Bob Page from Massachusetts, Juan Elizalde from Dallas, Texas, Leonard Collibee from Massachusetts, Rick Kirk from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Andrew Janquitto from Maryland and Steve Brodie from Connecticut.

Illinois State University to Host 2009 Junior Nationals & Collegiate 9-Ball Championships
The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) is excited to announce that Illinois State University (ISU) will host the 21st Annual Junior Nationals and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Collegiate 9-Ball Championships on July 21-26. The collegiate event will be held Tuesday through Thursday, while junior competition will take place Thursday through Sunday.

LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO (April 16, 2009) “” Internet based retailer PoolDawg has reached a deal with the American Poolplayers Association (APA) to become an official sponsor of all APA National Championships. PoolDawg will be the official table spot sponsor of both the APA National Singles and Team Championships held in Las Vegas annually at the Riviera Hotel & Casino.
As part of the agreement, all participants in the national championships will receive a commemorative memento courtesy of PoolDawg.

Las Vegas, Nevada- The Black Widow, The Duchess of Doom, The Texas Tornado, Kwik Fire, Little Lightning, G-Force, and The Viper are some of the names of the super powered billiard women attacking the 9th Annual Predator International 10-Ball Championship. Ozone Billiards will be presenting this year’s lineup of 112 players at the Riviera Hotel & Casino May 11-16,2009 during the BCAPL’s National 8-Ball Championships. In total, there will be a sizeable league of 13 world class women looking to make a serious dent into the egos of the men’s elite club.
Circular Follow By Eric “The Preacher” Yow
In this issue’s instructional article, I want to teach you the concept of Circular Follow. When I was on “œESPN 3 Cushion Grandmaster,” the first shot I performed against Semih Sayginer was a form of Circular Draw well known in 3-cushion billiards. In our professional Artistic Pool competitions we have adapted such a concept to the pool table to perform the bottom shot in the diagram. To perform the circular draw shot, you must capitalize on the rebound of the cushion and the effect that follow and sidespin have on the cue ball’s trajectory when a significant amount of spin is maintained. As you begin to work on this shot, please do not get discouraged. My first rule in studying artistic pool is to “œchange one variable at a time,” a lesson I learned from Rick Malm, creator of the Artistic Pool CD-Rom. The problem with this shot, however, is that there are so many variables to consider that it is difficult to fine tune your stroke so as to be able to duplicate it with relative consistency. Admittedly, this shot is not a hanger, even for me.
