US Billiard Qualifier in Houston Texas

US Billiards Regional Qualifier on Jan 15 & 16.We started our tournament with 7 players round robin in the preliminary round and no one went undefeated. With 5 wins and 1 loss Juan Sauz come in 1St place. Three players tied with 4 wins and 2 loses with Jose Mario Juarez at 2nd with 97 total point, Lan Vo come in 3rd with 96 total point, Ellis Lawrence come in 4th with 92 total points. Vinh Trieu come in 5th, Kiet Nguyen come in

6th, and Loc than come in 7th.

The semi-final match play on Sunday, January 24 was poetry on green felt as the 10 final gladiators of 3 Cushion shifted gears into a focused high. 2 brackets of 5 players each produced 3 players from each for the final playoff matches. The top 4 players after the last ball stopped rolling received free entry to the USBA Nationals in Tacoma, WA February 17 ““ 21, 2010.

Sayginer Captains World Team and Stuns Korea

Seoul,Korea- Turkey’s Semih Sayginer led the underdog World Team to a thrilling 3cushion victory over Team Korea in a 5-4 finale. This Dragon Promotion event took place at Times Sqaure in Seoul. The events will air on XTM and CJ Media Channels and are sponsored by www.Whois.co.kr, Takini Cloth, Min Tables, Predator Cues, Poison Cues, and Times Square Seoul.

Good Looking Time Shot

Freeze the red & yellow balls on the cushion as shown.
Set the cue ball perpendicular to yellow ball, (give or take 2 or 3 inches), and hit the yellow ball with cue ball using 10 o’clock English and a medium firm stroke. You should make this shot fairly easily and have some fun doing so.

The only difference is the entry fee based on player’s level. This is decided by the Tournament Director(s) and/or the USBA Secretary/Treasurer.

Prelims: 8 groups of 8 players each: round robin (25 point matches).

USBA Qualifier is a 3-day event. Player’s meeting started Friday morning at 9:30am and first rounds of play started right after meeting at 10:30. Format: Entry is $130 with a round robin format, race to 20 points in the prelims and 25 pts in the finals. There will be two flights of 6. Three from each flight advances to the 6 person finals on Sunday.

Pedro Piedrabuena is the Panamerican Champion!

The New Panamerican Champion: Pedro Piedrabuena

The USBA sent 4 players to the CPB Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The CPB (Confederacion Panamericana de Billar) is the governing body for 3-Cushion Billiards in both North and South America. The tournament took place August 5-8, 2009.

Pedro Piedrabuena won the event and is the new Panamerican (CPB) Champion. Hugo Patino finished in 6th. Miguel Torres finished in the top 16 and Michael Kang finished in the top 32. Pedro and Hugo, along with six other top CPB finishers will represent the CPB and their countries in the World 3-Cushion Championships which will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, November 11-15, 2009. More details on the results at the CPB championship will be posted on the CPB website (http://www.cpbillar.net) as they become available.

2 auction & 2 lottery winners = 24 players

Semi-Finals: 3 groups of 8 players each/round robin/30 points
Top 4 from each group advance to Finals (12 players)

Finals: 2 groups of 6 players each/round robin/40 points
Top 2 finishers from each group advance to the final matches: single elimination to 40 points to determine 1st through 4th place.

<br />DR. THOM ZIMMERMAN The Glaucoma Foundation was deeply saddened by the death on August 4 of Thom J. Zimmerman, MD, PhD, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Louisville. A member of our Scientific Advisory Board, he was uniquely suited for his successful work in pharmacological research in glaucoma and was dedicated to furthering the field. His contributions will be greatly missed.

Tom was also a member of the USBA (United States Billiard Association) and loved the game of 3-Cushion.
Our heartfelt condolences to his wife,Tinker, and family members.
