Mike Monegato Captures On Cue Handicap Snooker Classic

The United States Snooker Association (USSA) continues to rejuvenate snooker in the United States in 2009 with its inaugural USSA National Snooker Tour, and the sixth and final stop on the Tour – the On Cue Handicap Snooker Classic at On Cue Billiards, directed by USSA board member Tom Kollins – in Grayslake, IL, April 24-26, again enjoyed a full 16-player field. Four round-robin preliminary flights determined the eight players for the final rounds. The preliminary flights featured 2-frame matches among each opponent within a flight for a total of six frames played per player. Due to the handicap format, the six top players ““ Tom Kalinowski III, Marek Kuc, Chuck Looney, John Connelly, Chris Szarek and Mike Monegato ““ gave starts to the rest of the field, with 11-year old JonMichael Monegato (St. Charles, IL) receiving a 35-start-per-frame against the top players in the preliminaries and winning two frames!.

Billiards & Grill whose owners Robbie and Donna Franklin graciously added $1500 to this weekend’s events.
The participants were greeted with 18 bar tables that were recently recovered in Simonis 860 and 4 nicely kept
9ft tables. Sharpshooters provided an excellent atmosphere for all the participants as well as spectators.

The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Amateur-Advanced and Amateur Division were hosted by Flamin’ Nine Billiards in Gravois Mills, Mo., the Weekend of April 18th & 19th, 2009. The double event was $2500 Added played on 7 foot tables and featured many local players as well as players from around the region.
Scott Tollefson tops 2009 season opener on the Tiger Pool Tour
The 2009 season is underway as the year opener took place Apr 18th/19th at Orange Ball Billiards in Rockville, MD. A strong field of 83 players signed up for the $1000 added event made possible by Orange Ball, Tiger Products and the tour sponsors.
The first stop of the 2009 USBA Tour was held at Cue and Cushion Billiard Lounge in Hooksett, NH on April 17-19, 2009. Four of the country’s top players participated and were the clear favorites in this 11 player round robin to 25 points. Room owner Mazin Shooni, 2006 US Champion, had his 2 beautiful Chevillotte tables recently recovered with Simonis 300 rapide cloth. The tables were long and very slippery. Competing along with Mazin was Hugo Patino (2003, 2009 US Champion), Sonny Cho (2005 US Champion), Michael Kang (Carom Café owner and top US player), Jim Shovak (USBA Secretary/Treasurer), Bob Page from Massachusetts, Juan Elizalde from Dallas, Texas, Leonard Collibee from Massachusetts, Rick Kirk from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Andrew Janquitto from Maryland and Steve Brodie from Connecticut.
Illinois State University to Host 2009 Junior Nationals & Collegiate 9-Ball Championships
The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) is excited to announce that Illinois State University (ISU) will host the 21st Annual Junior Nationals and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Collegiate 9-Ball Championships on July 21-26. The collegiate event will be held Tuesday through Thursday, while junior competition will take place Thursday through Sunday.
